Disclaimer This can be a dangerous installation and should not be attempted by anyone that is not a professional in my opinion. I attempted to contact 30 electricians to check my work but no one would work on RV. RV dealerships were backed up for months so I was unable to check my work with a professional unfortunately. The project has been working well for over a month now with no issues. The Inergy Apex and the Inergy Kodiak are performing very well under all conditions and have saved us several times from a powerless night. Is this Install necessary? You can of course use your outside original RV plug to connect to the Apex in seconds but this leaves it exposed to the elements and theft. Another much simpler option would be to make a groove or hole in a outside storage bay for your RV power cord to fit into and lock the Apex inside. That would save you all this wiring and time. You would have to remember to stow your power cord before leaving and go outside to control the Apex but it remains the easiest option. This install allows me to use the power of the Apex and Kodiak from inside my RV and keeps them safe from the elements. Was it worth the time? This install was tricky but I absolutely love it. It is important to note that I would not have done this install if I did not trust that the Inergy Apex and Kodiak will preform safely for a long time to come. The Lithium NMC battery inside the Apex will last for thousands of cycles for years with no maintenance. Using this method for anything that contains lead acid batteries would require venting and would need to be replaced much more frequently. I spent days figuring out and implementing this installation and sharing it with all of you. Having a better knowledge of AC electrical would greatly speed up the installation. It also cost around 200 hundred dollars of materials. The wiring being the most expensive aspect. All said and done I would definitely do this install if asked to do it over again. Will this work with my RV? The Inergy Apex has a 1500 watt pure sine wave inverter with a 90 amp hour battery. This is a lot of power for a 25 pound little box. It is important to note that to prevent overheating, safety protocols of the battery management system inside the Apex it will not run at 1500 watts indefinitely and is intended for shorter bursts. They are quite happy running indefinitely around 800 watts in my experience. If your RV battery charger is not customizable the charger can use a lot of power just to charge the batteries. Most RV converters in a stock RV are around 40 Amps. To get watts we multiply 40 amps X 12 Volts and we get 480 watts. This is still well within the capabilities of the Apex to run some RV systems and still charge your batteries so this should work well with most Rvs. Solar? You can use the Apex to run your RV while it is being charged with up to 500 watts of solar! This makes the Inergy Apex a very versatile system for Rvers or Van lifers. With 500 watts of solar coming in you can run all of your critical RV systems and still have a full battery when the sun goes down. The system can be removed easily and taken anywhere which is a big advantage over a permanently mounted system. Be aware that using the air conditioner off of the Apex is not recommended as it takes way to much power. I have run a 5000 BTU air conditioner off of these units and it did work but with no solar it lasted about 1.5 hours. With 100 watts of solar it lasted 2.5 hours. So keep in mind air conditioners are very power hungry.
